July is the month Minneapolis shows off. The lakes are warm, the patios are full, the ballpark is buzzing, and the city’s biggest summer festival is back on the calendar. If you’re visiting (or playing tourist in your own town), consider this your July 2026 cheat sheet — because soaking up a Minneapolis summer is simply the thing to do in Minneapolis.
The Aquatennial is back: July 18–26
The city’s beloved “Best Days of Summer” returns this year, running July 18–26, 2026, with free, family-friendly events celebrating the city’s lakes and river. The headliner is the Torchlight Parade on Wednesday, July 22, rolling down Nicollet Mall with illuminated floats, marching bands, and dance teams — now hosted by the Aquatennial Ambassador Organization, keeping an 87-year Minneapolis tradition alive. Expect beachside fun, milk-carton boat races, and plenty of excuses to be outside.
Staying near downtown makes Aquatennial week easy. Oakland’s on 9th puts you in a furnished downtown studio a short walk from Nicollet Mall — perfect for a longer summer stay — while 300 Clifton, the historic Carpenter Mansion B&B in Loring Park, adds a garden hot tub and a speakeasy hidden in the basement (“Gertrude’s Cistern,” if you dare).
Catch the Twins at Target Field
Baseball on a July evening is peak Minnesota. The Twins are home July 7–12 against Cleveland and the Angels, then back July 24–26 to face the Athletics — which lands right in the middle of Aquatennial week. Grab day-game tickets and you can still make an evening trolley ride afterward.
Lake days, the Minneapolis way
The Chain of Lakes is the city’s summer living room. Rent a paddleboard on Bde Maka Ska, bike the loop to Lake Harriet, or just claim a beach towel and do absolutely nothing — all of it counts. The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board calendar is stacked all month with free outdoor concerts and Movies in the Parks. For where to set up camp, our list of the best Minneapolis parks has you covered, and nothing follows a beach day like a stop from our best ice cream and dessert list.

Saturday mornings: market first, trolley second
Downtown Saturdays start at the farmers market — one of the region’s best, per Meet Minneapolis’s summer guide — with local produce, flowers, and food makers. Then hop aboard a narrated scenic trolley tour and let a local host show you the lakes, the skyline, and the stories in between from the comfort of a vintage trolley. Traveling with kids? Our best family activities in Minneapolis list rounds out the day.
When the sun goes down
July nights here are warm and long, and the city makes good use of them. Sip something inventive from our best cocktail bars in Minneapolis list, or lean into the spooky side of summer at the Pillsbury Club — the haunted Charles S. Pillsbury Mansion, where themed drinks, a private theater, and year-round ghost tours prove Halloween doesn’t wait for October. Looking for something with more edge? We covered that in something edgy and different to do in Minneapolis at night.
Make it a July to remember
Aquatennial fireworks, a Twins win, a lake sunset, and a trolley full of new friends — that’s a Minneapolis July done right. Check the trolley tour calendar and book your seat before the summer dates fill up. We’ll save you a spot by the window.
