What to Do in Minneapolis August 14–16, 2026: Ed Sheeran, Josh Johnson, Twins Baseball, and the Fringe Finale

Every summer has one weekend where Minneapolis simply shows off, and in 2026 it’s August 14–16. Ed Sheeran fills U.S. Bank Stadium, The Daily Show’s Josh Johnson does five shows at the Orpheum, the Twins host the Phillies at Target Field, and the Minnesota Fringe Festival takes its final bow after eleven days of theater all over town. If you’ve been waiting for the right weekend to visit, this is the thing to do in Minneapolis. Here’s your day-by-day plan — and fair warning, rooms and tickets are going fast.

Friday, August 14: comedy, songwriters, and a warm-up lap

Ease in with a big Friday on Hennepin Avenue. Josh Johnson’s Comedy Band Camp opens at the Orpheum Theatre at 7 PM — he’s the Daily Show correspondent WIRED called the funniest guy on the internet, and he put out 38 hours of stand-up last year alone. A block away at the State Theatre, Mat Kearney plays at 8 PM with Jake Scott on the Nothing Left to Lose, Everything to Gain Tour. Prefer something weirder? The Fringe has stages running all evening. Cap the night at one of the best rooftops in Minneapolis while the August air is still doing you favors.

Saturday, August 15: the single biggest night of the summer

Saturday is a traffic jam of great decisions. Ed Sheeran’s LOOP Tour hits U.S. Bank Stadium at 5:30 PM with Myles Smith, Lukas Graham, and Ellie Banke — tens of thousands of people singing along under that giant glass roof. At the exact same hour, the Twins take on the Phillies at Target Field at 6:10 PM, a legitimate playoff-race series against one of the best teams in baseball. Indie-folk fans get door number three: The Crane Wives play First Avenue (doors 6:30, show 7:30, all ages) with Brye. And Josh Johnson does double duty at the Orpheum with 5 and 8:30 PM shows. Whatever you pick, scout the best live music venues in Minneapolis and the best sports bars for the pre-game hours.

Sunday, August 16: matinees and a proper send-off

Sunday is built for recovery with style. The Twins and Phillies wrap the series with a 1:10 PM matinee — day baseball at Target Field is one of summer’s great pleasures. The Minnesota Fringe closes out its 33rd festival with a full final day of performances, and Josh Johnson takes his last two bows at 5 and 8:30 PM. In between, wander the best parks in Minneapolis or squeeze in one more stop from our Minneapolis landmarks list.

See the whole city between shows — by trolley

With this much happening after dark, your daylight hours are for the city itself. Our Narrated Scenic Tour rolls past the Stone Arch Bridge, the Chain of Lakes, and every landmark worth a camera roll, and the Candlelight Ghost Tour is the right kind of shiver for a summer night. Traveling with your whole crew? Private trolley rentals are the fun way to shuttle a group between the stadium, the show, and dinner.

Where to stay (book now, seriously)

A stadium show, a comedy residency, and a Phillies series on the same weekend means downtown hotels will be tight. For a romantic base, 300 Clifton — the historic Carpenter Mansion B&B in Loring Park — has a garden hot tub and a genuinely haunted speakeasy basement, Gertrude’s Cistern. Want walk-everywhere convenience instead? Oakland’s on 9th puts a furnished downtown studio within strolling distance of both U.S. Bank Stadium and Target Field. And for one more only-in-Minneapolis night, tour the haunted Pillsbury Mansion and sip a spooky cocktail at the Pillsbury Club.

Plan the rest of the month

This weekend is the peak, but August keeps going: SummerSlam already kicked the month off, Tame Impala plays Target Center on the 28th, and the State Fair opens the 27th. Catch up with our full guide to what to do in Minneapolis in August 2026 and our Minnesota State Fair 2026 guide.
